Neighboorhood Safety, Protecting your family

By Pablo Luna

How would you feel if your home was broken into or your car gets stolen from your driveway? Not in another community,

but right here at the door of your house at Vicks Landing there has been several crimes committed.

What can you do to prevent crime? What do you do if you are a victim of a crime? The Apopka police department had these

tips to share:

Preventing crime is not about expensive equipment or big caliper guns, but about knowing your surroundings and using your common sense.

Call the police if you see something strange or suspicious going on. Get to know which cars are supposed to be parked in your neighborhood.

Do not excercise with ear pieces blasting, that way you will hear when danger is aproaching your way.

If you have been a victim of a crime the most important number you need is 911 , remain calm and give as much details as possible.

For tips on crime prevention you can visit: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Many home owner insurance cover vandalism, but you should get familiar with your policy and your deductibles. Y ou will also need to follow up with all the agencies involveld in your case; remember no one cares more about your possessions than you, so follow-up are a must.

Spring 2011

Sustaining Your Landscape, Your Investment

By Mary Múnera

Portions of this article were provided courtesy of Dr. Troutman and his company, ValleyCrest.

It’s spring and time to get planting but before you do…take a few notes from the article below to help you make the most of your yard investments.

Soils provide four critical needs for plants: nutrients, water, oxygen and support.

Fertilizing…..

The right approach is to use Best Management Practices (BMP's) to insure

that plants can capture all nutrients that are applied. These practices include limited application rates, reasonable annual rates and timings, use of appropriate amounts of soluble and slow release nitrogen sources in combination with soil testing.

Planting….

When plants are planted too deep or when soil or excessive mulch is added

on top of roots systems oxygen can't reach the roots and plant growth slows or stops and plants decline.

Watering……

Plants need adequate moisture in the form of rainfall and irrigation to remain green and growing. Irrigation is designed to supplement rainfall not to replace it. Irrigation system design can also save large amounts of water. A lot of water is wasted by overwatering drought tolerant plants in order to provide adequate water to plants with high water needs. Irrigation systems today are designed to put plants with different water requirements on separate irrigation zones a process called "hydro

zoning". This can be done by moving or replacing plant material or by upgrading the irrigation system. An irrigation audit conducted by a licensed irrigator can identify these issues and offer corrections. And don’t forget to ask your licensed irrigator about installing rain sensors and controllers which can reduce irrigation use 20-60%.

Message from Board

By Innea De Jesús

From the Board of Director, we want

to thank to all that came and

volunteer to our first Egg Hunting Extravaganza activity. We know our children enjoyed the activity and this

is what really matters. We are making an effort to make our

community a community and this activity proved it. We have more ideas, so please come and participate

when we invite.

We extend a big welcome to our new

neighbors and soon we will be knocking your door to say hi and

introduce ourselves. You are

important to us and we are glad you

are part of our community now.

Congratulations on your new home!

The Board with the help of our manager Mary Múnera and our neighbors are still working to keep our community out of debt and save money. We have so many houses for sale and foreclosure and this is a big concern to us. Please, if you know of a friend that is moving to the State or

is looking for a property, let them know about the opportunities in our

community.

Our board and forum meeting will be

held on Wednesday, May the 11th and we request your presence. We are planning to discuss important matters that involve our community security . We ask that everyone make

the effort to assist. If you cannot come, please send your ideas or

concerns via email to

mmunera@ sentrymgt.com.

Weneedyou!
